SHE WAS THERE WHEN WE NEEDED HER; NOW SHE NEEDS US!
June 2 is election day in Los Angeles. One hotly contested office is that of City Councilperson for L.A.'s 13th Council District. It is a pleasure to give Happenings' very first endorsement. it goes to the incumbent, Peggy Stevenson.
Peggy Stevenson's husband, was the first Los Angeles city councilman ever to stand up for gay rights in this city. When he died and Peggy took over his unexpired term, she rallied to the gay cause with everything she had. Peggy is one of our best friends in government. She stands up in front of her peers, in front of TV cameras, and

blasts any person or organization who attempts to make life difficult for us.
Now her office is in jeopardy. Her opponent has brought money and energy into the fight, and it just may be up to the gay community to save the day for Peggy. But we won't save the day if we don't vote. If you are thinking of letting someone else do it, please pause and think for a moment that this time, no one else can do it. You must get out and do that little job yourself. Peggy has been endorsed by many of the leading gay businessmen in District 13, and many have worked hard on her behalf. But if you don't get to the polls and give Peggy your vote, all that work will have failed. Please, please vote June 2, and if you're in District 13, please vote for Peggy Stevenson!
